On Christmas eve, we were at Meena Bazaar to buy some cool stuff for the dinner party hosted by a friend. Tired and hungry, we wanted something warm to fill our tummy. We decided to eat in a famous Indian restaurant, but on our way there we saw Chautari Restaurant in one of the hidden alleys of Meena Bazaar.
Nepali cuisine is famous for their momos which is similar to siomai of PH. The difference is that momo’s at Chautari doesn’t need any dip to make it tastier. The chicken and veg momos both melt in your mouth when you eat it. The filling is full of flavor, no extenders unlike those you buy from grocery stores. This feels like a home cooked momo up in the himalayan mountains. 🙂 The dips taste amazing too. Peanut sauce is warm and has full peanut flavor in it. The red sauce is the chili sauce. On the contrary, its cold and just the right amount of spicy. Sine the momos are tasty by itself I did not use the dips that much.
Khana set is same as the thali of India. Vegetable and Chicken Khana Set has the same viands. Beans, potato and dal then chicken gravy for the Chicken Khana Set. I asked my friend if dal is served cold in Nepal, apparently it.s not so they changed it to a new one. All the viands were a bit salty for me. Chicken will also be better if its deboned. I only had one serving of each since I was really full.
